Information – Education – Networking

About Moving & Handling People

The Moving & Handling People 2018 (MHP) Conference is a unique opportunity for your organisation to connect with delegates who work in a variety of roles across the government, private and third sectors.

This will be the 24th annual Moving & Handling People conference to be held, and comes 25 years after the Manual Handling Operations Regulations were instituted.

To mark this, the two-day 2018 event will have a special focus on promoting vigilance in identifying manual handling risks, suggesting ways in which these can be minimised, and promoting a culture of organisational excellence.

We will be providing delegates with two intensive days of CPD accredited training based on our trusted formula – a combination of keynote talks, plenaries, hands-on practical workshops, focused seminars and conference favourite; the Open Forum.

This year our equipment based Workshops include:

Practical Moving and Handling for People with Dementia

Spending in health and social care for those with dementia is estimated at over £8 billion and rising, reflecting the increasing population of people suffering with this condition. This workshop will use scenarios, equipment and case histories to identify workable moving and handling solutions.

Moving & Handling Clients with Complex Needs

Dealing with the complex moving and handling needs of a person who cannot manage their own personal care or transfer from their bed to their specially designed wheelchair but is capable of driving is challenging. The aim of this session is to consider and demonstrate handling strategies to provide safe care and transfer for clients with specialist and complex needs.

Safe Working in Responsibilities & Risk Reduction

The response to an emergency situation varies greatly depending on the person involved and availability of resources to help them. For patients in hospital and clients in the community – these situations require significant and potentially unsafe assistance from other people. During this workshop Anita Rush and Hilary Morton will address these issues in different settings, reviewing techniques and equipment that may be helpful in reducing the risk of injury for
already vulnerable clients.

There’s only me! Single Handed Care

Some situations dictate that only one carer is available to assist with the moving and handling needs of a client; returning home at short notice, the partner that only wants one practitioner in their home, the client that only wants one carer, the service that only provides one carer. This workshop will look at the equipment and techniques available that support a single handed care approach.

Sponsorship & Exhibition

Moving & Handling People sees the introduction of new sponsorship and exhibition options as well a new prestigious and accessible venue: The Watford Hilton. The location enjoys great links to public transport and the motorway network. Discount hotel bookings are available for overnight stays at the venue.

The biggest benefit of this new venue is considerably more space, allowing the reintroduction of an exhibition to the event. Providing an opportunity for a limited number of exhibitors to engage and network with delegates when they are not in seminars or workshops over the two days.

There are two areas reserved for exhibition space, consisting of either a:

  • 2m x 2m exhibition space in the Chipperfield Suite (floor plans below)
  • Table top stand at the back of the New Hertford Suite (floor plans below).

(Depending on exhibitor requirements.)
